Ada spent several years working at the Salvation Army Red Shield
Hostel for Graves Visitation located in Rue Michelet, Arras.
On recent visit to the area, one of our aims was to find the location
of this hostel. |
| The hut was a large wooden structure.
Originally located at Ostrohove Camp, near Boulogne, it was moved
and then rebuilt at Rue Michelet, Arras in 1919 (unconfirmed).
According to Salvation
Army sources it was in use from 1919-1939.

Rue Michelet is easily found from local maps and
the location was confirmed by David Stacey, the British CWGC representative,
based in Beaurains.

One address given for the hut was at number 37 but, although a
substantial house is there, no sign of the hut could be found.
The house has a very large garden and there are more modern industrial
premises at the rear so it is possible that this was the original
siting.
