Recently we were contacted, via this website, by a family in North
Yorkshire. They have a relative buried in a cemetery, thought to
be Wimereux, and were very concerned by a story they had heard about
the cemetery being disturbed by a road building programme. Uncertain
about his forename and regiment, they asked if we would help to
find him.
After census searches etc., we were successful, although his forename
and regiment were different from those suggested to us. We also
found his brother, who also lost his life and was unknown to the
family and were also able to assure them that the cemetery was not
threatened.
Much in the way that that the Visitation Service would have done,
Roger attended their graves, sent the family photographs of the
headstones, and placed British Legion poppy crosses for them.
